Social Net'g

Technologies can be used in multiple ways, both corporate and otherwise. Technology can be used to help connect people in ways that were otherwise impossible through social media. It can also be used in corporations to run tasks more efficiently and cut out certain costs that can be replaced by technology. In "Is MySpace Good for Society? A Freakonomics Quorum" the blog talks about the net effect of social networking and how it connects people together relating in closer relationships. Also, social networks provide a significant amount of information that can be used to determine certain trends. In "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" the article talks about professional recruiters post positions on social media for job candidates. The article also goes on to LinkedIn and how many hires were made just on that social media itself.

Technology certainly helps make things significantly easier in terms of job recruiting and finding potential candidates in terms of social media. However, a dark side does exist because of the anonymity of users. Because many people do not have an exact identification or cannot be tracked, they may be more inclined to say things that they would not in real life. These comments or actions can be negative and lead to a darker side of the web. I think technology will certainly evolve in the future and social media will evolve as well. We will depend heavily on social media and new methods to connect with people virtually will exist to make our lives easier.
