Blog v Wiki

A blog can be defined as a discussion or informational site published on a website. Usually blogs contain a series of posts or entries that can be about anything the writer chooses to discuss. Blogs are a way to express one's thoughts freely to an audience online. A wiki is a website that operates on collaborative trust. Wikis allow users to create and edit content.

Blogs and wikis share some similar elements but also contrast in several ways. Both allow users to publish content without facing many difficulties; but they differ when it comes to the regulation of the content. Blogs can be written by one person or a group of people and face less content editing than wikis. Wikis can only exist with a community of editors who collaborate to ensure the content is as accurate as possible.

It is very important to be converged in today's networked world. In the New York Times article "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid", the writer explains how bloggers worked together online on a blog to make their neighborhood safer. These blog users reported suspicious activity they saw and with a combined effort, a drug raid was pursued by the police and arrests were made. In the InformationWeek article "How to Use Wikis For Business", the author talks about how creating a database with shared information makes running businesses more efficient and also reduces costs.
